The church of Sant'Egidio is a sacred building which is located in the historic center of Montalcino.
It was built in 1325 to replace another structure was demolished to build the formwork and was the official church of the Republic of Siena in Montalcino made. It has a simple Romanesque facade in stone high above the eye shows the sock Siena. Some sculptures placed in the external walls is likely to come from this building demolished. The bell tower is sailing, but well made.
Inside consists of a nave there are stone pillars against the walls, large arches that support alternate on which rest the rafters. On the main altar there is an elegant wooden tabernacle carved, gilded and painted with the risen Christ and Saints, by Alessandro Casolani. On the right wall of the chancel, a fresco of the Madonna and Child with Saints (late fourteenth century).
